who we are

Uganda is one of the world’s youngest economies with about 77% population below 30 years of age. It has the fastest growing labor force. Unfortunately the country presides over jobless growth. Majority of Uganda’s youth who can’t find decent work have resorted to informal self-employment. Despite the unemployment question, the labor market is battling with the paradox of labor shortage. Research however suggests a mismatch in education and lucrative skills required in the labor market. In spite of the policy shifts targeting youth, unemployment has remained their biggest challenge. There’s an ailing need to address the issue of globalization that has revolutionized trends and mindset. As a result, issues like failed parenting strategies impact negatively in social interactions. By and large, the contemporary challenges of the young generation have not been fully captured in planning .It is upon this background that the Economic Hub is instituted.

The Economic-Hub is a think tank for a new breed of young Economists to grow in their understanding and appreciation of the economics discipline in relation to the contemporary social-economic situations. The think tank therefore intends to enroll fellows and identified people to undertake training, mentorship and apprenticeship to participate in policy research and adopt appropriate policy positions from the youth perspectives. The Hub will create conversation and engage in public dialogue informed by research about prevailing economic issues.

The young people have listened and waited long enough for the solutions to their predicament. It is time to take charge of their destiny with their independent ideas for growth, entrepreneurship and overall socioeconomic transformation of the societies where they are to spend their lives.
